#ad Prices come from Amazon and change. How this site is funded. Scores are our published editorial rubric — see our methodology.
Under $1,000 is where folding stops being a compromise. The deck is full length, the motor is rated for real use, and — critically — the deck lifts itself. Hydraulic or gas-strut assist is the single feature that determines whether a folding treadmill is actually folded on a daily basis or permanently left down.
What to check before you buy
- Is the lift assisted? If you have to lift the full deck weight unaided, you will do it twice. Every machine ranked here assists.
- Does it lower slowly? An unassisted descent is how decks crack and toes get broken. Assisted lowering is as important as assisted lifting.
- Folded height versus your ceiling. Upright-folding machines reach 70 inches or more. In a basement with low joists, measure first.
- Does it have transport wheels? Folded and immobile is barely better than unfolded.
The ranking
#1 · Interval runners who want fast incline changes

Horizon 7.0 AT
Horizon Fitness3.0 CHP, a 20″ × 60″ deck and QuickDial controls that change speed and incline in one motion — the best machine here for anyone whose workout changes every 60 seconds.
| Motor | 3.0 CHP |
|---|---|
| Running surface | 20″ × 60″ |
| Incline | 0–15% |
| Top speed | 12 mph |
| Weight capacity | 325 lb |
| Console | 7.25″ high-contrast LCD, 8 preset programs |
| Warranty | Lifetime frame + motor, 3 yr parts, 1 yr labor |
| Subscription | No subscription |
Horizon sells no subscription for this machine. The Bluetooth broadcast works with whatever third-party app you already use, and the console is fully functional with none.
Specifications per Horizon Fitness published specifications.
What it does well
- QuickDial rollers are the single best interval-training control on a sub-$1,000 treadmill
- Streams to Zwift, Peloton and Nike Run Club over Bluetooth — apps you choose, not one you are forced into
- Lifetime frame and motor cover with three years of parts
Where it falls short
- No touchscreen at a price where iFIT machines ship one
- Folding mechanism is stiffer than Sole's hydraulic assist
- Deck cushioning is firmer than the T202's three-zone system

#2 · The step up to a 60″ belt

Horizon T202
Horizon Fitness2.75 CHP and a full-length 20″ × 60″ deck with three-zone cushioning — the cheapest way onto a 60-inch belt from a brand that services its machines.
| Motor | 2.75 CHP |
|---|---|
| Running surface | 20″ × 60″ |
| Incline | 0–12% |
| Top speed | 12 mph |
| Weight capacity | 325 lb |
| Cushioning | 3-Zone Variable Response |
| Assembled weight | 187 lb |
| Subscription | Subscription optional |
No required plan. Console metrics and incline work standalone.
Specifications per Horizon Fitness published specifications.
What it does well
- 60″ belt at a price most rivals reserve for 55″
- Three-zone cushioning is firmer at push-off and softer at footstrike, which is the right way round
- 187 lb assembled is light for this class — easier to get into a room
Where it falls short
- 12% maximum incline, where the better machines reach 15%
- LCD console with LED windows, not a screen
- 2.75 CHP is fine for mixed use and marginal for daily running

#3 · Walkers and light joggers who want a real brand under $700

Horizon T101 Connect
Horizon FitnessA 2.5 CHP walker's treadmill with a lifetime frame warranty — the cheapest machine here we would call genuinely durable, as long as you are not running daily.
| Motor | 2.5 CHP |
|---|---|
| Running surface | 20″ × 55″ |
| Incline | 0–10% |
| Top speed | 10 mph |
| Weight capacity | 300 lb |
| Folds | Yes |
| Warranty | Lifetime frame, 1 yr parts and labor |
| Subscription | Subscription optional |
Every console readout works unsubscribed. Bluetooth lets you stream to third-party apps you already pay for (or do not) — Horizon does not sell a required plan.
Specifications per Horizon Fitness published specifications.
What it does well
- Lifetime frame warranty at a price where most frames carry one to five years
- Bluetooth speakers and an integrated fan, which the cheap competition skips
- Folds, and is light enough that one determined person can reposition it
Where it falls short
- 55″ belt is short — a tall runner will clip the motor cowl
- 2.5 CHP is a walking and light-jogging motor, not a marathon-training one
- 1-year parts cover is thin next to Sole's three

#4 · iFIT households already paying for the ecosystem

#ad How we are funded · Price as of October 5, 2026
NordicTrack T Series 6.5 S
NordicTrackA 2.6 CHP folding treadmill whose real proposition is iFIT — worth it only if you will actually pay for the membership, because the console is thin without it.
| Motor | 2.6 CHP |
|---|---|
| Running surface | 20″ × 55″ |
| Incline | 0–10% |
| Top speed | 10 mph |
| Weight capacity | 300 lb |
| Onboard programs | 20 pre-programmed workouts |
| Folds | Yes, SpaceSaver with EasyLift assist |
| Subscription | Subscription required for key features |
The 20 onboard programs work unsubscribed, but the trainer-led content, auto-incline control and workout library the machine is marketed on all sit behind a paid iFIT membership.
Specifications per NordicTrack published specifications.
What it does well
- SpaceSaver fold is genuinely easy — one of the better folding mechanisms at the price
- 20 onboard programs still run if you never subscribe
- Very widely stocked, so returns and parts are straightforward
Where it falls short
- The machine is designed around iFIT; unsubscribed it is a plain 2.6 CHP treadmill at a connected-treadmill price
- 55″ belt and 10 mph ceiling limit it to walking and steady jogging
- iFIT membership is a recurring cost that quickly exceeds the price gap to an unsubscribed rival

Folded is not stored
A folded treadmill at this price still occupies roughly a 45″ × 35″ footprint standing six feet tall. That is enough to walk past, not enough to use the room for yoga. If you need the floor genuinely clear, the compromise is real and you should read space planning and folded footprint before committing, or consider the flat-folding route in folding treadmills.
If the machine will live permanently in one spot, the hinge buys you nothing. Non-folding treadmills put the same money into a stiffer frame.
