The Horizon T101 occupies an unusual position: it is a budget treadmill from a brand that services its machines, with a lifetime frame warranty at a price where most frames carry one to five years. It is also, unambiguously, a walking and light-jogging machine, and buying it expecting more is the only way to be disappointed by it.

The specification

Horizon publishes a 2.5 CHP motor, a 20″ × 55″ running surface, 0-10% incline, a 10 mph top speed and a 300 lb weight capacity, with a lifetime frame warranty and one year on parts and labor. It folds, it has Bluetooth speakers and an integrated fan, and it is light enough for one determined person to reposition.

Where it wins

  • The lifetime frame warranty. At this price that is genuinely unusual, and the frame is the part you cannot replace.
  • Horizon's service network. There is a phone number, there are parts, and there are technicians. Almost nothing else under $700 can say that.
  • The fan and the speakers. Small things that get skipped at this price and that you notice every session.
  • No subscription anywhere. The console is self-contained and the Bluetooth connects to apps you already use.

Where it stops

The 55-inch deck is the hard limit. If you are over about 5'8″ and intend to run, this machine will feel short, and no amount of motor would fix that. The one-year parts warranty is also thin — Sole gives three at a higher price, and parts are what actually fail.

What it does well

  • Lifetime frame warranty at a price where most frames carry one to five years
  • Bluetooth speakers and an integrated fan, which the cheap competition skips
  • Folds, and is light enough that one determined person can reposition it

Where it falls short

  • 55″ belt is short — a tall runner will clip the motor cowl
  • 2.5 CHP is a walking and light-jogging motor, not a marathon-training one
  • 1-year parts cover is thin next to Sole's three

The alternatives

  • [Horizon T202](/treadmills/under-1000) — the same brand with a 60-inch deck and a 2.75 CHP motor, for roughly $100 more. If you will ever jog, pay the difference.
  • [Horizon 7.0 AT](/treadmills/reviews/horizon-7-0-at) — the proper running machine in the Horizon line, with 3.0 CHP and 15% incline.
  • A good walking pad — if you will only ever walk, something from treadmills under $500 saves money and stores better.

Frequently asked questions

Can you run on the Horizon T101?
Occasionally and slowly, yes. Routinely, no. The 2.5 CHP motor and 55-inch deck put it firmly in walking and light-jogging territory, and the 10 mph speed ceiling reflects that. If running is the plan, the T202 or 7.0 AT are the models to look at.
Does the Horizon T101 need a subscription?
No. Horizon sells no membership for this machine. Every console readout works unsubscribed, and the Bluetooth connection lets you stream to whichever third-party app you already use — or none at all.
Is the Horizon T101 worth it compared with cheaper treadmills?
Yes, for one specific reason: it comes with a lifetime frame warranty and a real service network, which no sub-$500 import offers. If something breaks on a $400 treadmill, you have a return window. If something breaks on a T101, you have a phone number.
What is the Horizon T101 weight limit?
Horizon rates it at 300 lb. For walking we would be comfortable to about 250 lb; for jogging, to about 225 lb. Heavier users should look at a machine rated 325 lb or more.
